NEW FORM I-9 RELEASED

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released an updated version of Form I-9 on August 1, 2023. The new form was made available on the USCIS website for employers to start using immediately. However, employers were given the flexibility to continue using the previous version of the form through October 31, 2023.

Starting from November 1, 2023, employers are required to use only the new Form I-9 dated 08/01/2023. The version date can be found at the lower left corner of the form. This update was introduced to provide employers additional process clarity and a new flexible option for employment eligibility. The new form introduces an alternative procedure rule from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that authorizes employers enrolled in E-Verify the option to remotely examine their employees’ identity and employment authorization documents under a DHS-authorized alternative procedure.
